Why Do We Have Goats?

We got Nigerian dwarf goats because we wanted milkers. Though we show, it is more for our education, to market our stock and to see our human "goat friends," than to show their true value. To us the value of a goat is in the milk she produces, and the offspring that he or she brings into the world. It is also in the joy the goats provide us every day as we celebrate their personalities and antics.

We stand by all our goats, whether they stay with us, or find new homes. We will always provide information to their owners, or buyers, as to their strengths and weaknesses, their genetic history and their upbringing. We want our goats to have forever homes where they are valued for all their contributions.

When we started with Nigerian dwarf goats we were blessed to buy stock from a first rate farm - Rosasharn. The does were both bred to the Rosasharn's premium herdsire - ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb +*S 'E'. In order to deepen our gene pool we have purchased animals from some of the best milking lines in the nation, as well as others that are valued for their conformation over their milking abilities. We continue to improve our lines through each generation, hoping that each daughter will be better than her mother, each buck son who is left intact, will bring the blessings from his ancestors to the herd he sires.

For Hames & Axle Farm the value of the goat is in the production. The fun is in the babies and the personalities, and the challenge is the premium care and the improvement of their dairy ability for each generation. Color is beautiful, but to us it is the "icing on the cake." Health and milk are invaluable traits that provide for a long life for both goat and owner. We hope that our customers share our goals.

We also believe that sharing knowledge is best way to care for our babies in their new homes. We provide owner support throughout the animal's life, and if necessary, breeding support through stud service to qualifying herds. We hope to be able to expand our support in future years as well.
