End of an Era
Posted by Farm at August 25th, 2010
Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written. I just haven’t had the energy and the time at the same time. It’s a weak excuse, but it’s all I have.
Today saw the end of an era. The beginning of Surfing Goat Soaps and the entry into the world of Nigerian dwarf goats happened when two little kids were born to our fledgling farm on the Vernal Equinox of 1997. Their names were Vernal Equinox and Wonder, offspring of Rosasharn’s Black Onyx and Goodwood Tom Thumb. Well today, we lost Wonder to old age.
Vern’s still with us, as big and strong as ever.
In Wonder’s life she taught me many things, from how to deliver babies, to how to deal with gangrene and how to appreciate a goat for just being there. To her end she lived and loved her terms. She wanted attention, but she wouldn’t ask for it. She’d just stand at the back and look at me with those eyes saying “If you really love me, you’ll come to see me.” and I would.
She gave us only one doe in her many years of kids, but that girl is my “bread and butter doe,” giving me a ton of milk every time she kids. Wonder will live on in Miracle’s kids and those who came from our Asa Metrical, who was Sam’s sire, and continues on through his offspring.
Thank you Wonder. We’ll miss you, but say Hi to Onyx and Asa for us.
