New Global Goats
Posted by Farm at February 28th, 2007
Hi, well the Hames & Axle kidding season began, but not here, yet. Hames & Axle’s Theia gave birth to a single buckling this morning at her new home. Though I haven’t seen him yet, he sounds beautiful. His sire is our Sam Etrical, so it will be fun to watch him grow up. His fate is in his new farm’s hands though.
Here at Hames & Axle, we “gave birth” to a new goat, kind of. “Global Goats,” is a new campaign which we’re launching, hoping to bring attention to the need to preserve small, local agriculture. Goats are not industrially farmed in this country, and have come to be recognized as the “homestead dairy source.” Global Goats is a movement to celebrate diversified farms, small scale agriculture and the fact that small farms are more environmentally sensitive. You can see the “Global Goat,” on the new index page, and more information will be available soon. The Global Goat himself was drawn by Ellen Chapman, the artist who designed our Surfing Goat soaps label and who is now re-launching her graphic career from her diversified farm in New Hampshire.
Global Goats will help people find local farms and resources in the fight to preserve small farms, stop NAIS and celebrate the new Global Environmental Awareness.
Our first kids are due in about 2 weeks, and boy are they busy in there! We’ll be so glad to have milk flowing here again! and today’s a beautiful sunny day, reminding us that Springtime is almost here. Yay!
Thanks for reading,
Pat
