On a Happier Note

After a LONG night, and a wonderful vet’s help, Wind Chime is a mom!  She, with alot of help, gave birth to twin does, Origami and Gordian Knot. You can tell from their names why she needed help. These girls have been knitting in utero, using their own legs as knitting needles.

Origami was the first one born, a beautiful tri-color sundgau. She’s long and good sized, though she wanted to admire herself all the time, so her head was pinned against her rib cage, making it difficult to get her out. Then came Gordia, a handsome buckskin girl, who thought she’d do a 7.0 degree of difficulty birth, in a reverse pike position. At one point we had 3 hooves and no head! But after 4 hours of hard labor, 45 minutes of vet assistance, both girls were nursing in a half an hour. It took awhile for Chime’s mommy-instincts to wake up, but she’s doing great and there’s no reason to expect another set of “knit one, kid two,” in the future.

Now we have a break to catch up on some sleep (like that’s going to happen,) and the older kids are old enough that they can start sharing some of that “goat gold,” their mother’s milk.  (Yes, I am a bit punchy. 3 hours of sleep and a whole new day, will do that to you.)

Thank you to Dr. Mike for coming out in the middle of the night. At least this time we had a happy ending. Hopefully the next time we see you, it will be a social call. :)
