Another Loss
Posted by Farm at February 22nd, 2009
WE’ve never had this happen before, but we’ve lost another one of the quad does. Little Peanut was the smallest in her litter, but she seemed very strong. The weather has continued to be cold and windy here, and between competing for milk and not being able to retain her own heat, we lost her.
Every loss is hard. Trying to figure out what went wrong. How can it be avoided? Can it be? Now we have two beautiful doelings to raise, but do we trust their mom to do the job, or do we take them away? They are nursing strongly, and considering one is the one who came back from the brink on day one, I believe she has the will to fight for life. Only time will tell, but it’s a cruel reminder that no one really knows what’s going on inside another family, even one that’s born right here.
