Well, it’s done. Our kidding season is over, and we lost Mithral along the way. We knew we were facing some potential problems as she appeared so heavy, even before the breedings. We thought we’d try one last time, breeding her to Little John, but if that one didn’t take, we were glad to just let her loaf along the rest of life. She was a very kind goat.
She started laboring around chores last night, and everything looked fine. But nothing progressed right, and after many hours of trying to turn kids, and deal with something in the way, we finally called the vet to come out. We had already put her on notice that we might need some help with our girl.

It was obvious that Mithral wasn’t going to make it, but she stoically refused to give up. After some sedative, and a local, the vet performed a C-Section and pulled three kids out. I had already gotten one doeling out. Of those 4 kids, one little buckling survived. As soon as the last one was removed from her uterus, Mithral died. She had given us her all, and more.

We will miss her gentleness and her wonderful milk, but we are blessed with one daughter and two sons from her. This little boy will be named Hames & Axle’s LJ Remithral *S, and will remain here to continue her legacy. Thank you Mithral for your gifts and your lessons. Thanks to Dr. Mike for helping us end her troubles.
